For over 40 years, Omnibus has been the World’s Most Rock n Roll Publisher, resulting in an enviable catalogue of classic titles in our backlist: Dear Boy: The Life Of Keith Moon by Tony Fletcher, Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance by Johnny Rogan, Uptight: The Velvet Underground Story by Victor Bockris, Freddie Mercury: An intimate memoir by the man who knew him best by Peter Freestone, and Under The Ivy: The Life & Music of Kate Bush and George Harrison: Behind The Locked Door, both by Graeme Thomson.
With approximately 30 new titles a year, and a backlist of over 300 titles in print, Omnibus Press is the market leader in the field. We continue to publish genre defining books covering any style you care to name: pop, rock, classical, metal, country, psychedelic, prog, electronic, dance, hip hop, jazz… the list goes on. But quality is equally as important as quantity to us. We are incredibly proud to have had books longlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize, named 'Book of the Year' in both Mojo and Uncut and featured in many other best of the year lists, including The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Scottish Herald, Q, Rough Trade, Vive Le Rock, Classic Rock, No Depression, Long Live Vinyl, Vinyl Factory and Monorail.
More recently we have been working with some amazing artists: Michael Bradley, Rick Buckler, Wolfgang Flür, Robert Forster, Kristin Hersh, Brian and Eddie Holland, Ian Hunter, Wayne Hussey, Matt Johnson, Jordan, John Mayall, Don Powell, Ranking Roger, Jake Shears, John Shuttleworth, Damo Suzuki, Sylvain Sylvain, Thunder, Loudon Wainwright III and Jimmy Webb. These musicians have helped us produce books we’re incredibly proud to have published and they’ve also given us some memorable nights out! There was Jordan’s gig at the 100 Club, Brian and Eddie Holland at the British Library, a live performance from Jimmy Webb in the Omnibus offices and an intimate Thunder gig in Manchester to pick just a handful.
We’d also like to make a big tip of the hat to a couple of our key partners. We’ve recently teamed up with Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz of Ecstatic Peace Library to co-publish all their titles, resulting in books covering subjects as diverse as Mayhem, Adrien Henri and Luc Ferrari. Books that only Thurston and Eva could have brought to fruition. And we’re equally proud to be the main sponsors of the wonderful Louder Than Words literary festival, held in Manchester each November and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. Jill Adam, John Robb and their team host a weekend which truly celebrates the amazing diversity in music book publishing at the moment.
Right, that’s enough from us. We have some really exciting new titles lined up for the next couple of years which need to be edited, designed and sent to press for your enjoyment. Hope to see you at our next big Omnibus night out!
