Omnibus was launched in 1972 as part of Music Sales (now Wise Music Group), a family-run independent music publisher. Initially we covered music, art and photography but soon we decided to focus solely upon music, using a wide range of formats ranging from beautifully illustrated coffee table books to biographies and autobiographies of legendary musicians, as well as insightful explorations into the changing music business.

Some early Omnibus titles (including Pete Frame’s outstanding Rock Family Trees and Dezo Hoffman’s With The Beatles) remain in print today and are still cherished titles on our list.

Over the decades, we’ve published many classic biographies, including Johnny Rogan’s Morrisey & Marr: The Severed Alliance, Zoë Howe’s biography of Stevie Nicks and Tony Fletcher’s definitive biography of Keith Moon, Dear Boy. We have also published autobiographies by Ian Hunter, Jordan, Sylvain Sylvain, the Holland brothers and a great many others.

We are proud to have won the prestigious Penderyn Music Book Prize in 2022 and 2020, making Omnibus the first publisher to have won the award twice.

The Artists

We have been working with amazing musicians, including Barry Adamson, Dave Ball, Michael Bradley, Rick Buckler, Bobby Elliott, Wolfgang Flür,  Vivien Goldman, Kristin Hersh, Brian and Eddie Holland, Steve Howe, Ian Hunter, Wayne Hussey, Jordan, Don Letts, John Mayall, Don Powell, Sheila Rock, Ranking Roger, Jake Shears, John Shuttleworth, Damo Suzuki, Sylvain Sylvain, Lee Thompson, Loudon Wainwright III and Jimmy Webb... the list goes on.

These artists have enabled us to publish books that we’re incredibly proud of and have given us memorable events! There was Jordan’s gig at the 100 Club, Brian and Eddie Holland at the British Library, a live performance from Jimmy Webb in the Omnibus office and an intimate Thunder gig in Manchester.

Omnibus Press is the main sponsor of the wonderful Louder Than Words literary festival, which is held in Manchester each November. It is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. Jill Adam, John Robb and their team host a weekend which celebrates the amazing diversity in music book publishing.

Right, that’s enough from us. We have some really exciting new titles lined up which need to be edited, designed and sent to press for your enjoyment.
