About Omnibus Press

Books about Music

Omnibus is the world’s most rock 'n' roll publisher. With approximately 30 new books a year and a backlist of over 300 titles in print, Omnibus Press is the market leader in the field.

We were privileged to publish, early on, the classic Rock Family Tree books by music archivist Pete Frame. In the words of the NME:

'No sensible criticism can be made of a work such as this'

We continue to publish genre-defining books covering a wide range of styles and topics, resulting in an enviable backlist, including Dear Boy: The Life of Keith Moon by Tony Fletcher; Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance by Johnny Rogan; Freddie Mercury: An Intimate Memoir by the Man Who Knew Him Best by Peter Freestone; and Graeme Thomson's books Under the Ivy: The Life and Music of Kate Bush and George Harrison: Behind The Locked Door

We are incredibly proud to have won the 2020 Penderyn Music Book Prize; to have been named 'Book of the Year' in both Mojo and Uncut; and to have been featured in many other best of the year lists, including The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Scottish Herald, Q Magazine, Rough Trade and Classic Rock.

The Artists

We have been working with some amazing musicians, including Barry Adamson, Dave Ball, Michael Bradley, Rick Buckler, Bobby Elliott, Wolfgang Flür,  Vivien Goldman, Kristin Hersh, Brian and Eddie Holland, Steve Howe, Ian Hunter, Wayne Hussey, Jordan, Don Letts, John Mayall, Don Powell, Sheila Rock, Ranking Roger, Jake Shears, John Shuttleworth, Damo Suzuki, Sylvain Sylvain, Lee Thompson, Loudon Wainwright III and Jimmy Webb... the list goes on.

These artists have enabled us to publish books that we’re incredibly proud of and they’ve also given us memorable nights out! There was Jordan’s gig at the 100 Club, Brian and Eddie Holland at the British Library, a live performance from Jimmy Webb in the Omnibus office and an intimate Thunder gig in Manchester.

We’d also like to tip the hat to a couple of our key partners. We’ve teamed up with Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz of Ecstatic Peace Library to co-publish all their titles, resulting in books covering subjects as diverse as Mayhem, Adrien Henri and Luc Ferrari. Books that only Thurston and Eva could have brought to fruition.

Omnibus Press is the main sponsor of the wonderful Louder Than Words literary festival, which is held in Manchester each November. It is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. Jill Adam, John Robb and their team host a weekend which celebrates the amazing diversity in music book publishing.

Right, that’s enough from us. We have some really exciting new titles lined up which need to be edited, designed and sent to press for your enjoyment.
